Make, Develop and Innovate in India: The time is now

December 22, 2014

Representatives of the government and the pharmaceutical industry met at CII’s 12th National Pharmaceutical Conclave, recently, to discuss ways of addressing India’s national health challenges. There was consensus within the industry that the ‘time is now’ to convert intent into action.

There was unanimous agreement that we need better coordination and partnership, if the vision to make, develop and innovate in India is to be realised. Collaboration clearly emerged as the theme for moving forward on a brisk and measurable health agenda for India, where all citizens would have assure access to quality care and the latest medical solutions.

It was encouraging to hear Mr. KL Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare say that industry should be in the driver’s seat and the role of Government was to create an enabling environment; moving away from close regulation and scrutiny to allow pharmaceutical companies more freedom to operate efficiently.

There was consensus within the industry that the ‘time is now’ to convert intent into action. Industry expressed eagerness to partner with Government to bring growth to India through research, innovation and manufacturing.

To meet its healthcare objectives India needs:

  • Predictability, consistency and transparency in its regulatory and policy environment
  • Regulations that are aligned with international norms and follow global standards
  • A well-defined and well-resourced plan for promoting research and innovation

With a clear agenda and an actionable plan, we can work together to achieve our vision of a healthy India.Girls Shoes
